Christmas Appeal

Your support keeps inclusive spaces open for disabled children and their families. Because every family deserves somewhere safe, supportive and free from judgement.

For families raising disabled children, finding places where their child is truly understood can be exhausting. At Christmas, when routines shift and the world becomes louder and brighter, that challenge can feel even heavier.

The Yard is one of the few spaces where families tell us they can breathe, a place where their children are welcomed exactly as they are, and parents feel the relief of being part of a community that understands.

Inclusive spaces don’t just support play. They support family life. They offer belonging when families need it most, and your support keeps them open.

The Yard has supported us through moments when we felt so alone. They have given our child a space where he can truly be himself. We’re so grateful to have somewhere we feel welcomed and never judged.

Meet the families you could support

The Yard is where Oliver is happiest. He explores freely, follows his curiosity, and connects with the world in ways that make sense to him. The wind on his face, the birds calling, the grass under his feet. Here, he’s understood without pressure or judgement. It feels like an extended family for both of us.

The Yard feels like home for us. There’s no judgement here, just welcome, understanding and amazing staff who support our family. AJ can play the way he needs to, make friends and feel accepted. We don’t feel dismissed or alone anymore. The Yard has been a lifeline.

Edith can play exactly the way she likes to, running, exploring and following her own lead. She’s encouraged, never judged, and always welcomed. We feel safe, respected and included here. After feeling isolated in the past, The Yard was the first place that saw Edith for who she is and welcomed us without hesitation.

Where your donation goes

The Yard is a very special place to us. When we moved to Edinburgh and had to wait months for a school place for our son, we found refuge at the Yard. He felt welcomed and accepted. The volunteers are amazing, always finding ways to help and make the visit enjoyable for all.
