What we do
Play isn’t just fun, it’s essential for a child’s overall health, well-being, and happiness. At The Yard, we witness the transformative power of play every day. In our centres, disabled children and young people can explore, build confidence, and forge long-lasting friendships through our inclusive play sessions.
Our services extend far beyond the playroom. We offer outreach programmes, respite care, and family support designed to empower children and allow families to thrive.
Our mission is to build thriving communities of support where every family feels valued, included, and connected.
Our values
We are passionate about inspiring confidence and capability. We are brilliant at creating fun, fostering friendships and providing a place to play and belong.
Adventurous and inspiring
Taking creative approaches that allow risk taking and new experiences.
Deeply respectful and kind
Knowledge and lived experience bringing next level understanding and active acceptance.
Connection and community
Being somewhere that feels like your own, where you can connect with people and spaces.
Our Strategy
Over the next 5 years, we will extend our reach whilst always providing a trusted, high-quality personalised service to our children and families. We aim to meet the needs of more disabled children and their families and increasingly focus upon early intervention to prevent crisis.

Rights of the child
The Yard adheres to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most rapidly and widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. The Convention changed the way children are viewed and treated, i.e. as human beings with a distinct set of rights, instead of as passive objects of care and charity.
Our partners
We believe in the power of collaboration to create a brighter future for children and young people. That’s why we partner with other organisations who share our vision. Together, we work to create a world where all kinds of children and young people have the opportunities they deserve to thrive.
