We believe in adventures!

What you’ll find

At The Yard, each centre has a variety of areas set up for different types of play. These include areas for art and creative activities, large open spaces for active play, outside space for climbing and running, accessible bikes and trikes, a sand and water play area, and a quiet sensory space.

Play at The Yard

Our approach to play is child-led, which means children choose how and what they play with. This kind of free play puts children in the driving seat, encouraging them to follow their own curiosity and imagination whilst building independence and self-confidence.

By choosing their own adventures, children can develop a sense of who they are, and can express their thoughts and feelings in a safe and secure environment.

Our highly skilled play team are also on hand to offer guidance and support with activities such as arts and crafts, den building, baking and even karaoke.

Here for every child

Our staff are highly trained to support every child’s abilities. We understand that every day is different, so we work with your child’s passions and interests, do what they love and adapt to their world.

Our non-exclusion policy means that we’ll always find a way to make sure that every child can take part and enjoy themselves at The Yard.

Whole family support

We understand that supporting families is as important as nurturing children’s play. We provide a welcoming community where families can connect, share experiences, and find strength together.

Our team is here to offer guidance, resources, and a listening ear, ensuring every family feels supported and empowered.

The Yard supports Scotland’s Play Charter

Play Scotland is promoting Scotland’s first inclusive Play Charter. This describes a collective commitment to play for all babies, children and young people in Scotland.

It builds on the Scottish Government’s National Play Strategy and the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach to supporting children, young people and their families.

The Charter is for parents, play providers, play champions and everyone with an interest and/or responsibility for play in Scotland.

Children and young people have the need and the right to play indoors and outdoors in welcoming and stimulating environments. Through play children have fun; develop and learn; assess and manage risk; use their imaginations and create new experiences that contribute to their health; wellbeing and a happy childhood.
